chairs

naoto fukasawa nine chairs are a part of vitra editions. they are all identical in design except that each chair is made from a different material. the different materials are marble, redwood, concrete, acrylic, wicker, metal, polyurethane foam, felt, and hay. each material transforms the appearance of the chair. this is exactly the result the designer fukasawa set out to achieve when he created the series of chairs to illustrate the impact of a single design decision, the choice of material.

panhandle bandshell

the pandhandle bandshell is a temporary music venue created from of recycled, reclaimed and repurposed materials. it demonstrates that a beautiful structure can be built from materials which would otherwise be discarded creating awareness of our impact on the environment. Designed by the finch mob, rebar, and Christopher Guillard.

dutch designer tejo remy’s reinterpreted playground fence is an interesting example of recycled design. The language and use have been playfully manipulated. the fence which was once a barrier or delineation of space becomes an area for connecting and hanging out.

V/a.g.r.a lamp

designed by italian design lab nonesiste in collaboration with physicist stefano besseghina the v/a.g.r.a lamp is as it name suggests, it goes up when turned on. it is a “living lamp” embryonic and morpho-organic particles that come to life when stimulated by light.

designed by amt, the inside out collection reverses the expectation of the common drinking glass. the iconic shapes are hidden behind discreet outer shape. it is ony by pouring the drink is its inner identity revealed.

wind to light

Wind to Light is an experimental site specific installation by Jason Bruges illustrating alternative energy sourcesĀ  “the installation is custom built, using 500 mini wind turbines to generate power, which illuminates hundreds of mounted leds, creating firefly-like fields of light, with wind visually interpreted as electronic patterns across the installation.” in conjunction with onedotzero and RIBA commissioned for architecture week 2007, this can be viewed at the southbank center till September.

Winner of the ICFF Editor’s Choice Award for Best New Designer. corona is a solar powered outdoor lighting system which can be staked to the ground, attached to a wall, or simply placed on a table top. The photovoltaic cell transforms sunlight into energy during the day, and its led automatically starts to glow when the sun sets.” Resembling flowers when planted they provide a wonderful glow to outdoor spaces.

German designer Peter Burning’s sha-do lamp can be hung from any wall or ceiling creating fantastic gorgeous individual shadows up to three meters in diameter. Beautiful.
