sofabrick.jpg

designed by Aya Koike, sofa brick takes its reference from a traditional upholstered furniture but reinvents itself into modular soft “brick” made of cork for building furniture, which blurs the line between furniture, floor and wall. it is a flexible system in that it is muli functional and allows the consumer to part of the creative process, as well as being made of sustainable material.

it is part of collection called “PARASITE FURNITURE, which will involve existing environments in a structure of design. It is a challenge to cancel the boundaries between people, objects, and environments which should live together and help each other.”

gaucho

Filed under: design, furniture — debra @ 6:50 pm

gaucho.jpg

gaucho is a striking chair formed of two dynamic wooden arches. its unique design makes it not only stylish, and easily transportable but it is also ergonomic. “This unique piece of furniture owes its existence to the image of the gaucho, poised both elegantly and thrillingly in the saddle as he gallops across the endless green swath of the Pampas. With an upright seat suspended on two luxury wooden hoops, the only thing missing is the lasso on the right-hand side for you to feel like one of the archaic masters of the region around Rio Grande do Sul. With lines that are purist, yet zestfully shaped, introverted and static, yet full of life when you sit on it – these are the characteristics of a true Gaucho”

cloud is designed by frank gehry for vitra and according to its designer the poetic nature of these lights should convey “the feeling of freedom and eccentricity.” it is available as hanging, floor, tablelamp, and standing. the defining feature however is its paper like polyester shade, with its irregular sculptural shape, marked by countless folds, crimps, bulges and dents, that can be moulded and shaped by the user. the sculpural effect is pure gehry.

float red wine glasses are part of a whole series of glasswear by molo. this innovative design is beautiful and yet highly functional. they can be used to serve hot or cold liquids. the unique handcrafted suspended bowl design at the bottom of the glasses serves to elevate condensation away from the table surface, making use of a coaster unnecessary. when used for cold drinks, beads of moisture from condensation cling to the rounded underbelly of the glass, which heightens the delicate appeal of the design.
