Jonathan Smith and his friends borrowed the design of these cardboard geodesic domes from a 1973 edition of popular science magazine, updating and improved it to meet the rigors of the Black Rock Desert.

These domes have served as an effective shelter against wind, extreme heat and, once painted, rainfall. they are made out of recycled cardboard and therefore fairly inexpensive. check out their website for instructions to make your own.
