9 volt

Richard Lawson’s 9-volt light was part of 100% Design and is now  being produced  by mathmos. a modern interpretation of a candle  the lamp is attached to a 9 volt battery. when lying horizontally it is in the off position and white in colour. it is turned on by simply turning it vertical. available in blue or red.

V/a.g.r.a lamp

designed by italian design lab nonesiste in collaboration with physicist stefano besseghina the v/a.g.r.a lamp is as it name suggests, it goes up when turned on. it is a “living lamp” embryonic and morpho-organic particles that come to life when stimulated by light.

wind to light

Wind to Light is an experimental site specific installation by Jason Bruges illustrating alternative energy sources  “the installation is custom built, using 500 mini wind turbines to generate power, which illuminates hundreds of mounted leds, creating firefly-like fields of light, with wind visually interpreted as electronic patterns across the installation.” in conjunction with onedotzero and RIBA commissioned for architecture week 2007, this can be viewed at the southbank center till September.

Winner of the ICFF Editor’s Choice Award for Best New Designer. corona is a solar powered outdoor lighting system which can be staked to the ground, attached to a wall, or simply placed on a table top. The photovoltaic cell transforms sunlight into energy during the day, and its led automatically starts to glow when the sun sets.” Resembling flowers when planted they provide a wonderful glow to outdoor spaces.

German designer Peter Burning’s sha-do lamp can be hung from any wall or ceiling creating fantastic gorgeous individual shadows up to three meters in diameter. Beautiful.

mediterraneo

mediterraneo is a result of swarovski’s collaboration with architect and designer Gaetano Pesce. designed in the same style of a traditional chandelier it is anything buit. Pesce’s design consists of 140 crystal strands, each one consisting of 87 swarovski crystals lit up by led’s that change colour. This unique chandelier also changes shape and emits smells before your eyes.

another fantastic product from south african design stuart haygarth. made from 416 disposable plastic wine glasses and lit with a pink flourescent light source he continues in his tradition of turning every day objects into elegant works of art.

led bouquet

from design company tayo comes the havaleena led torch. the simple cyclindrical shape make these glowing torches both portable and flexible in its uses and display. they come bundled as a bouquet in a vase. as well as being energy efficient, each torch can be used separately or attached to a aluminum base to create a floorlamp, as well as coming with four different colour filters.

canadian designers Muhammad moussa and rick shean have released their debut lighting collection aer. available in floor, table, horizontal, mini and candle versions they are carefully crafted of unglazed clay and maple base. aer’s abstract negative space creates a warm glow within the fixture while projecting elegant patterns onto its surrounding surfaces.
