TIDECHANDELIERw.jpg

Stuart Haygarth collects, categorizes and gives new meanings and significance to everyday objects.

“The original Tide chandelier is part of a larger body of work based on the collection of ‘ man made’ debris washed up on a specific stretch of Kent coastline. I have been collecting material over many years and the work is still in progress. The material collected is sorted and categorized and several individual pieces of work were produced. The Tide chandelier is created from clear and translucent objects, primarily made of plastic. Each object is different in shape and form, yet they come together to produce one sphere. The sphere is an analogy for the moon which effects the tides which in turn wash up the debris .”

Created by australian designer Ilan El “Rain is a playful pendant that will delight all that come across it. A sensual object that suspends from the ceiling, delighting the senses through sight and sound. It’s an interactive light – moving the rods creates a delicate string of sound and ripple reflections. Inspiration for this design came from Feng Shui and the desire to create an illuminated chime”  It uses simple and readily available materials. The lights inside hang on the electrical cords that power them, and Aluminium was chosen for its sustainable qualities, being a recyclable material.

Designed by Shoko Cesar, Greg Ball, and Darryl Barton, Cholesterol is a lamp made with reused clear plastic egg cartons. The designers explain; “North America’s rich and over-indulgent culture generates millions of tons of waste that flow into the landfill every year. Cholesterol lighting helps to block the flow of waste by adding beauty to our devalued waste products. By reusing material that is on its way to the landfill, Cholesterol adds aesthetic value to a disposable material and asks the user to reconsider: what materials are disposable, and what materials can be reused for their aesthetic value” via mocoloco
